Sales vs. Marketing

Which are you spending more time on?

Owning your own business can be exhausting, and small business owners especially, are prone to burn out.

Burnout doesn’t typically happen as a result of making too many sales though.

Usually the problem is that we think we have to be marketing 24/7, just because we can.

Most small business owners spend 80% of their time marketing and 20% of their time selling. It should be the other way around.

MARKETING is about creating awareness and demand.
SALES is about generating revenue and fulfilling demand.

Because social media is so saturated, most small business owners think that in order to stand out they have to post more often, post on every platform, and/or be on top of every new trend. (Hence, every online ‘expert’ telling you that you need a content calendar.)

The problem is - everyone is using that same strategy.

The more prevalent issue is that most small business owners have so completely saturated their own platforms that no one is even paying attention to them anymore. It’s all just more noise to scroll past.

If you’re not giving them a reason to pay attention, they won’t.

It’s as simple as that.

If you’ve already established a presence on social media so that people know where to find you and are aware of what you offer, it’s time to start spending more time on sales.

You have less than 3 seconds to get their attention while they’re scrolling past - make it count.
